Our City

Portland...

The wonders of Portland are no longer a secret. It has become famous for everything it is and everything it offers. There’s the beer. And the coffee. And the bike lanes. And the food – from interestingly shaped donuts to food carts serving vegan Himalayan dumplings. Sperling’s Best Places currently ranks Portland as the second best city in the U.S. for “foodies.” But top rankings are hardly new to the city. Money magazine in 2016 ranked it as its “Best City in the West.” Men’s Fitness in 2014 ranked it as the “Fittest City in America.”

A small town in a big city

The entire metro area is connected by one of the world’s leading public transportation systems – of buses, streetcars, light rail trains and an aerial tram, one of only two commuter aerial trams in the United States. The tram runs from Oregon Heath & Science University’s main campus southwest of downtown to the South Waterfront neighborhood on the west bank of the Willamette River.

… surrounded by beauty

Portland hikers and runners love the city’s 5,000-acre Forest Park, one of the largest city parks in the nation. And the real outdoor wonders happen just outside Portland.

Ninety minutes to the west is the Pacific Ocean and the spectacular Oregon coast. Ninety minutes to the east is the skiing and hiking of 11,000-foot Mt. Hood. And 20 minutes east, along the Columbia River, is the western end of the world-famous Columbia River Gorge, home to 80 miles of cliffs and waterfalls and, further upriver, the town of Hood River, the windsurfing capital of the world.
