The Program Assistant Temp assists with coordinating and overseeing the logistics of the Oregon Public Health Association annual public health conference, which is October 7 and 8, 2024 at Oregon State University in Corvallis, Oregon. This is a part-time, 3-month position from the start of September through the end of November. The position is remote except for a requirement to be in person for the conference from October 6th to October 9th.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Assist with on-site logistics with the conference venues
  • Help to create and share communications through the OPHA website, newsletter, listserv, and social media channels (LinkedIn, Instagram, Facebook)
  • Support logistics of catered meals and beverages with OSU Catering
  • Help association members with renewals, cancellations, and payments
  • Assist with event set up, maintenance, and breakdown
  • Support the activities of conference volunteers
  • Support conference sponsors and exhibitors
  • Help to oversee registration activities
  • Help with conference evaluations

Desired Qualifications

All are encouraged to apply, candidates with the following experience will be shown preference:

  • 1-2 years of experience in event or conference coordination activities
  • 1-2 years in administrative support

Desired Skills

  • Excellent written and verbal communication
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Flexible schedule, ability to work evenings and weekends during conference
  • Ability to work remotely via video conferencing platforms (Zoom, Google Meet)
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Outlook, Excel)

About the OPHA Annual Conference and Meeting

The OPHA Annual Conference and Meeting is Oregon’s premier public health event. Since 1944, public health leaders, professionals, educators, advocates, and students have come together to share the latest insights, initiatives, and innovations to advance public health and the health and wellbeing of all who live in Oregon. The 80th Annual Conference and Meeting is Monday, October 7, and Tuesday, October 8, 2024, at the La Sells Stewart Center and the CH2M Alumni Center at Oregon State University. The conference this year also includes an 80’s night event from 7-10 pm at the Angry Beaver on Monday, October 7.

Compensation

The compensation for this position is $20 per hour for 10 hours per week in September, 20 hours per week in October (with additional hours during the week of the conference), and 10 hours per week in November.
