Position Summary

The State of Equity States Strategy Co-Lead (Partnerships) will have primary responsibility for developing and sustaining organizational partnerships as part of our work to advance racial equity in government practices. This is in support of a forthcoming national strategy to transform state-level public institutions. This position will also represent State of Equity in meetings with high-level partners, engage a wide range of health equity and racial equity stakeholders, and pursue policy and institutional changes that support an overall strategy to transform government.

This person will share a workload with a second co-lead as part of our collaborative staff structure, and will join a dynamic team of highly motivated, values-driven, and effective racial and health equity leaders.

This position reports to the Executive Director of State of Equity (State of Equity is a program of the Public Health Institute) and will also act as a strategic advisor and leadership partner to the Executive Director on the overall vision, decision-making, strategic direction, business model, partnerships, and other key aspects of State of Equity’s work.

State of Equity’s purpose is to “move racial equity and health to the heart of public institutions” and our organizational values are racial justice, accountability, self-determination, and collective care.

This is a regular position that could be between part time at 75% FTE (30 hours/week) and full time at 100% FTE (40 hours/week). The starting FTE will be determined upon hire.

This position is fully remote but will require travel a few times per year within the United States, with some overnight stays to attend in-person meetings and convenings or conduct other work activities. The anticipated hiring range is $89,668 to $118,000 based on 100% FTE. (The full salary range for this position is $89,668 to $133,998 per year based on 100% FTE.) The starting salary will be determined based on the candidate’s knowledge, skills, experience, as well as budget availability.

Minimum Qualifications

  • 5 years of relevant experience in policy analysis
  • Bachelor’s degree, or substitute with four additional years of related work experience. (e.g. experience in community organizing, and institutional and systems change work.)

Other Qualifications

  • Deep understanding of core constructs such as structural racism, equity, justice, white privilege, internalized oppression, antiracism, etc., and experience centering Black voices and voices of indigenous people and people of color (BIPOC).
  • Experience in supporting equitable and healthy communities and understanding of key policy issues that shape the social determinants of health and equity.
  • Ability to navigate nuanced political environments.
  • Skill in managing cross sector relationships.
  • Skill in facilitating and planning meetings of two to 200 people, including conversations about types of oppressions with diverse audiences, arranging logistics, meeting notes, and implementing next steps.
  • Strong leadership and management skills including supporting professional growth through supervision, mentorship, and coaching.
  • Excellent organizational skills, accuracy, and attention to detail.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, both in a one-on-one setting and in small groups.
  • Strong orientation toward teamwork.
  • Ability to track and manage a complex workload and competing priorities.
  • Experience working in government and conducting policy analysis.
  • Strong public speaking skills.
  • Computer skills including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, EndNote, SharePoint, Zoom, and internet searches.
  • Ability to conduct travel a few times per year within the United States, with some overnight stays to attend in-person meetings and convenings or conduct other work activities.
