Relevance and Relationships: The Role of Family and Consumer Sciences in Improving the Nation’s Health

October 23 @ 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm

Public and Land-grant universities across the nation are rapidly growing their portfolio of work designed to address the complex array of factors that are threatening the health of individuals, families, and communities. Many are doing this work through their respective Cooperative Extension organizations. Others are doing this directly through outreach and community engagement efforts of their academic medical centers of health science colleges.

For more than a century, Family and Consumer Sciences (FCS), and more broadly, the human sciences in general, have played a central role in this work. This dynamic landscape is presenting new opportunities for FCS and human science professionals to communicate the unique contributions they have historically made and will continue to make toward improving the nation’s health.

It is also an important time for FCS and human science professionals to engage with new partners from other fields in collaborative relationships that allow all parties to contribute their unique knowledge and skills in ways that ensure all people can live long and healthy lives.

Join us on October 23rd at 3:00 PM for and engaging webinar where four panelists share their perspectives on the role of FCS and the human sciences in improving the nation’s health.

Panelists include: Erik Porfeli, Department Chair, Human Sciences, The Ohio State University Allison Myers, Associate Dean for Extension and Outreach, College of Health, Oregon State University Jennifer Bridge, President of the National Extension Association of Family and Consumer Sciences, University of Kentucky Linda Alexander, Chief Academic Officer, Association of Schools and Programs of Public Health Kelly Dalton, Executive Director of the APLU Board on Health and Human Sciences and Roger Rennekamp, Health Director, Extension Committee on Organization and Policy, will host the webinar.
