APHA Kaiser Permanente Community Health Fellowship Deadline

January 13, 2023

APHA Kaiser Permanente Community Health Fellowship

Deadline: 13 January 2023 (11:59 PM EST)

About

The APHA Kaiser Permanente Community Health Fellowship aims to build a group of diverse, underrepresented public health leaders committed to improving the health of our most vulnerable communities and supporting achieving health equity for all. The fellowship is funded by a grant from Kaiser Permanente National Community Benefit Fund at the East Bay Community Foundation.

Fellows support and lead projects, programs, and partnerships to address upstream determinants of health/social health across Kaiser Permanente-served communities. Critical determinants prioritized by Kaiser Permanente and our partners include housing and homelessness, food security, economic opportunity, and education, racism and related trauma, environmental health and sustainability, and access to healthcare services.

Award

Fellows will receive a $120,000 stipend. The duration of the fellowship is twelve months with a start date of September 5, 2023.

Other benefits of the Fellowship include:

  • Complimentary APHA Membership for one year (with access to APHA’s Early-Career Professionals)
  • Exclusive monthly professional development sessions (virtual)
  • Stipend to offset costs related to attending the APHA Annual Meeting in 2023 (registration, flight, and hotel)

Placement Sites

Fellows are placed with Kaiser Permanente partners serving our communities or within Kaiser Permanente. Virtual work will be accommodated as required due to COVID-19 in line with public health guidance and as determined by the site and its needs. More information about Placement Sites is within the application.

Note: Fellows may be requested to relocate to their placement site. Relocation costs are the responsibility of the Fellow.

Eligibility Requirements

This fellowship is intended for early career professionals who have a conferred master’s (MPH) or doctorate degree (DrPH, PhD) in public health from one of our partner universities between May 2022 and August 2023. (APHA Kaiser Permanente Community Health Scholars who fall within the conferral date timeline are also eligible to apply for the fellowship.)

Prior work experience in public health or healthcare, including internships and leadership demonstrations through community involvement or professional associations, will be strongly considered.

Applicants must be U.S. citizens or hold a visa permitting permanent residence (“Green Card”) in the U.S.

Preference is given to those who identify as first-generation college graduates; persons from lower socioeconomic backgrounds, and those who classify under race/ethnicity groups such as Blacks or African Americans, Asians, Hispanics or Latinos, American Indians or Alaska Natives, Native Hawaiians/Pacific Islanders, and individuals from other communities of color or underrepresented populations.
