Missing Murdered Indigenous Women – Public Event

January 19, 2023 @ 4:50 pm - 5:50 pm

Advancing Indigenous Health Equity Through Decolonizing Public Health

Join us as we converse with Native leaders who are leading initiatives in political and civic engagement, and movement building to decolonize public health. This public series centers on Indigenous strengths and collaboration as part of the larger Missing, Murdered, Indigenous Women and Relatives (MMIWR) movement and beyond.

On January 19th, State Representative Tawna Sanchez will speak about the Oregon legislative process to pass HB 2025, including the process of building community coalition/support, conceptualizing and creating a legislative concept, getting a HB passed and writing the report presented to the legislative assembly. Representative Sanchez will also speak about the future of MMIWR from a public health perspective for students to see opportunities for engagement.

Abigail Echohawk, the Vice President of the Seattle Indian Health Board and Scientific Director of the Urban Indian Health Board talk will be scheduled soon.
