What Makes a Difference, For Whom and Under What Conditions?: Using Coincidence Analysis To Identify Difference-Makers

We are excited to welcome Dr. Edward Miech, an expert on coincidence analysis (CNA), to speak to our OHSU-PSU SPH faculty and students about using CNA as a research approach and method.

Please join us on Thursday, June 20 from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. in Vanport room 620M.

Coincidence analysis (CNA) has recently emerged as a new analytic option that allows health services researchers and implementation scientists to systematically evaluate an entire dataset (large or small) and identify the crucial difference making conditions. In this in-person presentation, Edward Miech (Research Scientist, Regenstrief Institute, Indianapolis, IN) will provide an overview to CNA, an innovative case-based method that draws on Boolean algebra, set theory and logic. CNA is fundamentally different than traditional statistical or qualitative approaches, and offers new ways to factor context and complexity into models. There are now 100 CNA-related publications in the peer-reviewed literature, mostly published over the past four years. The talk will include time for discussion and Q&A as well as provide resources for those interested in learning more about CNA.
