System-Level Risk Factors and Postpartum Morbidity: The Role of Health Insurance and Health Care Financial Burden

The United States has the highest rates of maternal death and complications of childbirth among high-income countries. The alarming trends in maternal mortality and morbidity shed light on potential unmet postpartum health care needs and missed opportunities to address system-level drivers of maternal morbidity. The proposed research will utilize Oregon All Payer All Claims data (2012-2018) to assess demographic, clinical and system-level drivers of maternal morbidity with a specific focus on the role of health insurance and health care financial burden on postpartum health.
