Quantitative Epidemiology Methods In Practice Seminar: Using Causal Inference To Understand Challenges of EHR Data

May 2 @ 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm

USING CAUSAL INFERENCE TO UNDERSTAND CHALLENGES OF EHR DATA

Nicole G. Weiskopf, PhD
Associate Professor, Department of Medical Informatics and Clinical Epidemiology, Oregon Health and Science University

Electronic health record (EHR) data provide a valuable opportunity to study patient health and outcomes in real-world settings. These data, however, have been shown to be highly variable and often poor quality. This talk will provide an overview of key challenges associated with EHR data and how they can be understood using causal inference, with focus on collider bias, health equity, and artificial intelligence.
