SUMMARY:Spotlight on Faculty: Confronting Legacies of Racism & Anti-Fatness in Public Health
DESCRIPTION:Spotlight on Faculty Series: Dr. Hannah Cory \nEnding Public Harm: Confronting Legacies of Racism & Anti-Fatness in Public Health\nDr. Hannah Cory is an Assistant Professor in Health Promotion and Community Health at the OHSU-PSU School of Public Health. As a registered dietitian and public health nutrition researcher she is devoted to rethinking how society understands and values body diversity. What happens when the systems meant to protect our health instead reinforce racism and anti-fatness\, undermining people’s confidence and safety in their bodies? In centering the lived experiences of minoritized communities\, Dr. Cory will discuss how discrimination shapes everything from eating behaviors and mental health to chronic disease risk – revealing how nutrition challenges\, often blamed on individual choices\, are rooted in broader social inequities.
