SUMMARY:Stats & Stanzas 2026 - Living Room
DESCRIPTION:A PUBLIC HEALTH OF HEALING\, RESISTANCE\, & RESURGENCE \n“against the relentless laughter of evil\nthere is less and less living room\nand where are my loved ones? \nIt is time to make our way home.” \n– June Jordan\, moving towards home (1982) \nIn our ever-present moment of continued state-sanctioned violence – from anti-trans violence and erasure\, to racialized pol-ICE violence\, to ongoing settler-colonial violence in Palestine\, to [insert]\, to [insert]\, to [insert] – what does it mean to have/find living room? As home\, as homeplace\, as belonging. Living room as a place – the sanctuary of sofa\, being held\, heard\, nurtured\, loved on. Living room as space – to breathe\, to be full\, to be whole\, to move freely\, to unfold\, to be allowed/aloud. Living room as invitation – to grow\, to be seated\, to rise-up\, to move in solidarity. What does it take for public health and our communities to protect/preserve room to live / living room / our living rooms? \nIn a time when LOVE *and* RESISTANCE must be simultaneous acts\, this event will illuminate the necessity of both STATS *and* STANZAS to create public health futures of radical possibility. \nWe invite you to join us for an evening of healing\, resistance\, and solidarity\, featuring poetry readings from a lineup of poets whose work embodies the spirit of poetic health justice. Featured guests include: \n\nPoet Brianna Renae (2018 & 2026 Slamlandia Grand Slam Champion)\nPoet Henneh Kwaku Kyereh\nDJ SoundsByDontā\nMusic artist Nafisaria Mathews\nPhotographer Sai Stone (ShotsBySai)\n\nFriday April 24th\n6:00 – 9:00p (open mic 6:00-7:00p) \nThe Skyline Room\nHilton Portland Downtown\n921 SW 6th Ave\, Portland\, OR 97204 \nBring the fam. Bring the homies. Bring the kids. Bring the notepads. Bring the love.

SUMMARY:Quantitative Epidemiology Methods in Practice Seminar
DESCRIPTION:Recreational cannabis legalization and serious mental disorder among cannabis patients in California: A statewide longitudinal study\\nPresenter: Sidra Goldman-Mellor PhD\, MPH – Associate Professor\, Department of Public Health\, University of California\, Merced \nMore than 50% of U.S. residents live in states with legalized recreational use of cannabis. Some research suggests that recreational cannabis legalization has led to population-level increases in incidence of serious mental disorder. This talk will present results from a study using statewide\, longitudinally-linked administrative health record data to examine whether recreational legalization in California was associated with changes in mental disorder risk among a potentially vulnerable subgroup: individuals with problematic cannabis use. \nJOIN VIRTUALLY

SUMMARY:17th Annual Latiné Health Equity Conference
DESCRIPTION:Introducing Familias en Acción’s 17th Annual Latiné Health Equity Conference – “Seguiremos Sanando: Culture\, Identity\, and Collective Well-being.” This year\, our conference focuses on healing – mentally\, emotionally\, physically\, spiritually and socially. \nThe Latiné community in Oregon is strong\, unique and resourceful despite the lasting harm brought by colonialism\, oppression\, exclusion\, migration\, displacement and violence we have experienced. The current political climate is only furthering trauma and harm\, making the practice of healing imperative. \nHealing within the context of Familias en Acciòn’s Latiné Health Equity Conference speaks to a comprehensive approach to improving the health and well-being of the Latiné community with the grounding of our language\, values and culture. Healing is more than treating an illness\, it is about reconnecting with who we are\, sharing our collective stories\, and seeing our cultural practices as core to holistic health. By reclaiming our ancestral knowledge\, honoring traditional healing practices\, and speaking our truths in the language that carries our histories—Spanish\, Indigenous languages\, and Spanglish— we can thrive! \nJoin us for a day of learning\, connection\, and collective healing. \nREGISTER FOR EVENT
