Robert Hesslink teaches in the School of Public Health at Portland State University. His personal interest in longevity and health underscores his passion for teaching PHE 354 Social Gerontology, PHE 423 Business and Aging, and PHE 456 Health Aspects of Aging. Robert received his doctorate degree from the Sargent College of Allied Health at Boston University. Upon graduation, Dr. Hesslink joined the United States Navy as a research physiologist where he conducted studies on human performance in extreme environments.
After six years in the U.S. Navy, Robert embarked on a career in the dietary supplement and medical foods industries where he conducted studies on a variety of interventions related to obesity, joint health, and aging. This knowledge is instrumental in helping students learn about prevention and intervention as they relate to longevity.
Robert brings real world experience through his company, Centerpointe Advisers, which helps clients around the United States navigate the world of health and wealth. Robert uses his experience and financial education to help individuals develop and implement strategies to mitigate investment and longevity risk. These same strategies are relevant to a career in public health and include topics such as social programs (e.g., Medicare, Social Security), dementia and long-term care housing, and retirement planning.
