Graduate students to support SPH Antiracism Initiative

Dr. Dawn Richardson, Associate Dean of Social Justice, has recently hired two graduate students to support the Antiracism Initiative in the School of Public Health. Adriana (Adri) Jones, a second-year graduate student in the Masters in Health Management & Policy program, is a new Graduate Administrative Assistant supporting Dr. Richardson. Allysson Angeldekao, a second-year graduate student in the Masters in Public Health Practice program, is a Graduate Research Assistant on the Initiative.

Young woman with long dark hair in a green dress smiles at cameraAdri Jones is pursuing a degree in Health Management and Policy track and is passionate about advocating for racial health equity, public policy, community building, and cultural humility practices. She is also invested in efforts toward improving population health outcomes and exploring the impact of intergenerational trauma on health. Currently, Adri is supporting efforts through the Oregon Pacific Islander Coalition (OPIC) and United Territories of Pacific Islanders Portland (UTOPIA PDX) to provide culturally relevant COVID-19 resources for Pacific Islander communities living in Oregon and SW Washington.

Young woman with long dark hair smiles and waves at cameraAllysson Angeldekao hopes to use her future Public Health Practice MPH to support her interests in and advocacy for health equity, community development, preventative healthcare, and resiliency among low-income B/IPoC (Black, and/or Indigenous, and People of Color) populations. Currently, she supports the PDX Alliance for Self-Care (PDX ASC) in developing and accessing anti-racist, multicultural, and accessibility initiatives to provide historically marginalized communities in the Portland metropolitan area with safe and quality health resources.
