Interprofessional Education

What Is Interprofessional Education (IPE)?

Interprofessional education is when students from two or more professions learn about, from, and with each other to enable effective collaboration and improve health outcomes. The Interprofessional Experience course is a requirement for all MPH degree programs, and is met in different ways in different programs.

IPE Requirements

Satisfying the Interprofessional Experience requirement is done according to the table below:

MPH ProgramIPE Requirement
BiostatisticsUNI 504 - Qualitative Methods for Health Professionals.

Students in Biostatistics may elect to take an approved qualitative methods course within the SPH. If so, they may also take IPE 512, 513, 514, or 515.

Environmental Systems and Human HealthUNI 504 - Qualitative Methods for Health Professionals
EpidemiologyUNI 504 - Qualitative Methods for Health Professionals
Health Management and PolicyIPE 512, IPE 513, IPE 514, or IPE 515 - per the MPH Health Management and Policy Program Guide.

Other courses with the IPE or UNI prefix may also be taken to satisfy this requirement, but must be approved in advance by the student’s faculty advisor.
Health PromotionIPE 510, IPE 512, IPE 513, IPE 514, or IPE 515 - per the MPH Health Promotion Program Guide.

How many hours/credits?

A 1-2 credit approved IPE or UNI course. Students must refer to program handbooks for courses in each program that meet this requirement.

Do credits vary by MPH program?

Students must have completed at least 9 credits though it is suggested that they have completed 18 credits.
