Job Summary:

The Grants Associate (GA) is an integral member of the Grants Team (PBGT). The GA supports management of a portfolio of grants that align with Virginia Garcia’s Strategic Plan, overseeing all aspects of proposal development and submission. In addition, the GA supports the portfolio’s implementation of grant agreements, contracts, and cooperative agreements; provides technical assistance to Health Center staff supporting the implementation; and guides alignment with all grant requirements. Some evening and weekend work will be required.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Support management a mixed portfolio of grants from private and public (city, county, and state) sources, from proposal development, proposal writing and budget development, to the stewardship of awarded grants.
  • Evaluate public funding opportunities that align with Virginia Garcia’s strategic plan and fundraising goals.
  • Lead research and development of new funding opportunities that fall within the portfolio.
  • Create and implement a work plan for vetted funding opportunities, and initiate meetings with Health Center staff, including department directors, for proposal development.
  • Supports the development, implementation, monitoring of budgets for grant portfolio, including spend-down plans and revenue projections.
  • Support management reporting for grant portfolio, including tracking and reconciling grants-related activities, in partnership with the Finance Team and Controller.
  • Support compliance of all grants under management by meeting local, state, and federal statutes, rules, and guidance, as well as funder requirements.
  • Support the overall planning and execution of Foundation events.
  • Support private fundraising efforts as needed, including proposal writing.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Handle protected health information in a manner consistent with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA).

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

  • Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills with ability to research and compile data on population needs, program models and prospective funding sources.
  • Highly proficient with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Ability to incorporate complex ideas into clear and concise written products.
  • Self-starter with high level of organizational skills, and ability to independently organize and prioritize workload, manage multiple deadlines, and meet grant proposal goals.
  • Commitment and alignment to Virginia Garcia’s mission, vision, and values.

Education and Experience Required:

  • Bachelor’s Degree required.
  • Two to three years of fundraising/development experience required.
  • Proven track record of successful fundraising, grant management, and experience working with community health centers strongly preferred.
  • Experience with organizations that provide health care and/or address the social determinants of health is preferred.
