Assistant Professor Kelly M. Reavis Discusses Hearing Loss and Parkinson’s Disease Research on KGW News
Kelly M. Reavis, Assistant Professor of Epidemiology, appeared on KGW news to discuss her work in the groundbreaking research on the connection between hearing loss and Parkinson’s disease. Reavis collaborated with lead author Lee Neilson, assistant professor of neurology in the OHSU School of Medicine, and co-authors Jack Wiedrick, with the Biostatistics, Epidemiology and Research Design Program at OHSU, and Gregory D. Scott, professor of pathology in the OHSU School of Medicine through their connection at the Veterans Affairs (VA) Rehabilitation Research and Development, National Center for Rehabilitative Auditory Research, housed at the VA Portland Health Care System. Their research findings suggest that using hearing aids promptly after the onset of hearing loss may significantly reduce the risk of developing Parkinson’s.
