Marisa Westbrook Presents Trauma Informed Approach Examples From Housing and Health Study At Tacoma Conference

On April 5, 2024, Dr. Marisa Westbrook, Cristina Flores, MSW student, Jade Garza, MPH student, and Judith Solomon, Public Health & Spanish undergraduate student, presented research on “Trauma Informed Approaches to Researcher-Participant Relationships: Examples from a Housing and Health Study” at the Society for Community Research and Action in the West Conference in Tacoma.

This presentation is based on the work from Dr. Westbrook’s Doubled Up PDX project where this team uses a Trauma-informed care approach to design a study on housing and health that builds rapport with research participants, minimizes re-traumatization, appropriately interpreting results, and uncovering cultural significance. The goal of this approach is to improve a participant’s experience in their contribution to research for the purposes of health equity.
