Memorial Fund Established to Support Tribal students in the OHSU-PSU SPH

In memory of Celeste Davis, a charitable fund has been established to advance the work and education of Tribal students enrolled in graduate programs at OHSU-PSU School of Public Health (SPH).

Celeste Davis entered the SPH Health Systems & Policy PhD program in 2018 after a 20-year career in the U.S. Public Health Service Commissioned Corps. After Davis “retired” as a Commander, she then joined the Northwest Portland Area Indian Health Board (NPAIHB) as the Environmental Public Health Program Director. She was instrumental in leading NPAIHB’s Covid-19 response as the NPAIHB Incident Commander in service to Northwest Tribes. Most recently, her team was awarded the National Environmental Health Association Gold Star Award.

As a citizen of the Chickasaw nation in Oklahoma, Davis was passionate about conducting much needed research on American Tribal health systems and policies, the impact of federal laws and policies on AI/AN rural populations, and comparative research on international indigenous health policies. Her goal in pursuing a Ph.D. was to continue a life of public service, and to give back by educating others on Tribal public health issues.

As part of OHSU Foundation’s Spring for Students Initiative, OHSU will match 50% of donations made by June 30, 2023.
