Academic Policy and Curriculum Committee (APCC)

Dean’s Office Liaison: Associate Dean of Academic Affairs and Assistant Dean of Undergraduate Affairs.

APCC’s key responsibilities include:

  • Develop and maintain academic policies and procedures;
  • Maintain a repository of all SPH policies on the SPH website/intranet;
  • Coordinate approvals for all SPH policies with the OHSU and PSU Provost’s offices;
  • Review and make recommendations for course, curriculum, and program changes;
  • Develop and maintain policies regarding syllabus format;
  • Provide oversight of academic program review and assessment activities of the School;

Academic Personnel Committee

Dean’s Office Liaison: Associate Dean of Academic Affairs and Assistant Dean of Graduate Academic Affairs

The APC undertakes the following responsibilities in compliance with applicable institutional policies related to academic personnel:

  • Maintain policies, procedures, and criteria for assignment of rank, promotion, tenure, post tenure review, post continuous appointment, and annual review of all faculty
  • Serve annually on PSU and OHSU committees for selected faculty reviews (third year tenure-related review at PSU, promotion at both OHSU and PSU, PSU NTTF review, emeritus/emerita at OHSU and PSU, PSU Post-Tenure Review)
  • Review and make recommendations to the Dean for nonpaid faculty appointments
  • Recommend to the Voting Faculty the membership of all SPH standing committees based on an annual survey conducted each spring by the AD/AFA’s office, as described in VI.1.A.

Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Committee

Dean’s Office Liaison: Associate Dean of Social Justice
Primary responsibilities of the Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Committee include:

  • Develop and maintain the School’s Diversity Plan;
  • Develop metrics and monitor the School’s compliance with the Diversity Plan, university policies, and accreditation guidelines relative to diversity, equity, and inclusion;
  • Support the development of cultural humility through curricula, training events, and workshops;
  • Advise and collaborate with the Student Affairs Committee (SAC) and admissions committees to recruit and admit a diverse student body;
  • Develop and maintain guidelines for social justice-informed course/syllabus content; and
  • Propose specific school-wide goals for increasing representation and supporting student success.

Student Affairs Committee

Dean’s Office Liaison: Associate Dean of Student & Alumni Affairs

    Primary responsibilities of the Student Affairs Committee include:

    • Develop and maintain policies and procedures to address student issues and interests, including student academic and career advising;
    • Facilitate and ensure continuity of academic and career advising to student groups and student-led activities;
    • Facilitate the appointment of student representatives to SPH standing and ad hoc committees, work groups, and task forces, through the Student Leadership Council (SLC);
    • Establish and maintain processes to celebrate, acknowledge, and honor students;
    • Develop and maintain policies consistent with both universities to enable students to communicate formal complaints and grievances;
    • In conjunction with the DEIC and the SPH AD/SJ, develop and maintain a trauma-informed “care team” to support SPH students;
    • Develop and maintain policies and practices regarding student recruitment;

Professional Workforce Development Committee

Dean’s Office Liaison: Associate Dean of Student & Alumni Affairs

    Key responsibilities of the PWDC involve the support and monitoring of compliance with School policies and accreditation guidelines relevant for workforce development, including:

Community Engagement Committee

Dean’s Office Liaison: Associate Dean of Social Justice

    The CEC provides support, guidance, and recommendations on interactions with members of the community. Key responsibilities of the CEC include:

    • Develop and maintain guidelines for engaging with, and supporting the needs of, our communities, prioritizing historically oppressed and marginalized communities;
    • Develop and maintain mechanisms of accountability to ensure the School is centering and elevating these communities;
    • Develop and maintain guidelines for community engagement competencies in our curricula;
    • Develop and maintain opportunities for community partners to share their expertise;
    • Determine and disseminate best practices for faculty working with communities; and
    • Work with the Provosts’ offices from both universities through the AD/SJ to develop and maintain guidelines for compensation of community members who support the School.

Research Committee

Dean’s Office Liaison: Associate Dean of Research

The Research Committee’s key responsibilities include:

  • Identify and facilitate promotion of research opportunities to SPH faculty;
  • Assist the Dean and Associate Dean for Research to design and disseminate internal research funding opportunities (e.g. pilot awards);
  • Advise the Dean and Associate Dean for Reearch on faculty mentoring to support individual and collective research activities;
  • Coordinate a regular research seminar series featuring SPH faculty, doctoral students, and guest speakers;
  • Create faculty development opportunities for SPH researchers;
  • Select the SPH Researcher of the Year for PSU and OHSU;
  • Support the development of an external research presence for the SPH, including procedures for collecting and posting information about SPH faculty research activities for the SPH website; and
  • Support faculty in the research enterprise.
