Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Committee (DEIC) CHARGE
The Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee (DEIC) provides advisory support, guidance, and recommendations on recruitment and retention of students, faculty, and staff from diverse and underrepresented populations. The DEIC also recommends strategies that foster a welcoming and culturally-sensitive community for all students, faculty, and staff.
As part of this charge, actions include:
Develop and maintain the School’s Diversity Plan.
Develop metrics and monitor the School’s compliance with the Diversity Plan, university policies, and accreditation guidelines relative to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
Support the development of cultural humility through curricula, training events, and workshops.
Advise and collaborate with the Student Affairs Committee (SAC) and admissions committees to recruit and admit a diverse student body.
Develop and maintain guidelines for social justice-informed course/syllabus content.
Propose specific school-wide goals for increasing representation and supporting student success.

Purpose of Definitions
Vision/one tool to guide the transformative work to fulfill SPH commitment to becoming an anti-racist program, dismantling and rebuilding at the program and governance levels.
The committee has engaged in this work for the past five years and these definitions represent the first of their kind to be used within the SPH.
