SUMMARY:Visual Thinking and Data Visualization for Clinical Research
DESCRIPTION:This highly interactive session presents ways to use visual thinking to strengthen research and scientific communication. In order to visualize data well\, we have to understand our research deeply. Likewise\, in order to understand our research deeply\, we need to be able to visualize it well. Centered around a graph makeover\, the talk presents three real-world design principles that can clarify both data visualization and critical thinking. \nKate Miller is Director of the Visual Thinking and Data Visualization Program at the Quantitative Sciences Unit at Stanford Medical School\, as well as a Senior Biostatistician there. She uses visual thinking every day in her collaborative work with clinical research teams. \nREGISTER VIA COMPASS

SUMMARY:ASPPH IDEA Institute: Engaging Diverse Voices for Action
DESCRIPTION:ASPPH’s IDEA Institute invites academic public health leaders\, faculty\, staff\, students\, and community partners to join Engaging Diverse Voices for Action on June 10 at 1:00 PM ET. The webinar is the second installment in the three-part Transforming Academia for Equity (TAE) series\, presented in partnership with Change Matrix\, LLC and supported by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation. Building on the Leading Transformation for Change Framework\, the session will explore how inclusive engagement can help institutions advance meaningful and lasting organizational change. \nThe TAE initiative was created to foster meaningful dialogue between academic institutions and community organizations around dismantling systems of oppression in higher education and creating more equitable and inclusive public health learning environments. Following the first webinar\, Creating Conditions for Change\, this next session moves from preparation to participation by examining the principles and practices that support authentic stakeholder engagement. \nA central feature of the webinar will be a presentation from the University of Memphis School of Public Health\, where participants will learn how the institution has engaged students throughout its TAE journey. The discussion will provide a practical example of how institutions can center the voices of those most impacted by systemic inequities and incorporate those perspectives into decision-making and change efforts. \nThe webinar will also include a structured small-group dialogue activity designed to encourage reflection\, surface diverse perspectives\, and generate actionable ideas. Participants will have the opportunity to examine the structures and conditions within their own organizations that either support or hinder inclusive engagement and collaborative leadership. \nDesigned to be both interactive and reflective\, this session offers valuable insights for those committed to advancing equity through sustained institutional transformation. A recording will be made available through the IDEA Institute’s eLearn platform following the event. \nREGISTER FOR EVENT

SUMMARY:Hidden barriers: The impact of immigration enforcement on patients\, learners and clinicians
DESCRIPTION:Immigration enforcement policies increasingly shape access to care\, with ripple effects on patient outcomes\, clinician well-being\, and the learning environment. This session explores how fear of enforcement delays care-seeking\, leading to more advanced illness\, higher-cost emergency care\, and worse long-term health outcomes. It also highlights an often-overlooked group—learners from immigrant backgrounds—whose training and well-being are directly affected by these policies. \nIn this talk\, Christina Low Kapalu\, Ph.D.\, will moderate a discussion with Aoi Nathalia Mizushima\, M.D.\, and Eva Galvez\, M.D.\, examining the parallel impacts on patients\, clinicians\, and learners\, including moral injury and ethical strain in clinical practice. The session will provide practical strategies for creating safer clinical environments\, supporting vulnerable populations\, and engaging in advocacy. SUMMARY:ASPP Webinar Humanizing Public Health: Rebuilding Trust in an Age of Misinformation
DESCRIPTION:ASPPH will host its next ASPPH Presents webinar\, Humanizing Public Health: Rebuilding Trust in an Age of Misinformation\, on May 11\, 2026\, from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM ET. This timely discussion will examine the complex and interconnected challenges contributing to misinformation\, including declining trust in public health institutions\, persistent social and structural inequities\, and an overreliance on biomedical approaches that may overlook human behavior and lived experience. \nDrawing on lessons from past and ongoing public health crises\, the webinar will explore how psychological\, cultural\, and structural factors influence how individuals interpret and act on health information. Panelists will also address the role of social media in shaping information ecosystems\, as well as gaps in digital and media literacy that can exacerbate the spread of misinformation. \nModerated by Dr. Randy Wykoff\, Founding Dean and Professor of Health Services Management and Policy at East Tennessee State University College of Public Health\, the conversation will highlight the need to move beyond traditional top-down communication strategies toward more human-centered\, culturally relevant\, and community-driven approaches that foster trust and engagement. \nPanelists include Dr. Perry N. Halkitis\, Dean and Hunterdon Professor at the Rutgers School of Public Health; Dr. Nancy Messonnier\, Dean and Bryson Distinguished Professor in Public Health at the UNC Gillings School of Global Public Health; and Erin O’Malley\, Executive Director of the Coalition for Trust in Health & Science. \nThis webinar is designed for students\, faculty\, and public health professionals seeking practical strategies to navigate misinformation and strengthen the impact of their work in an increasingly complex communication landscape. \nREGISTER FOR EVENT
