The administrative fellowship program is designed for recent graduates from an accredited graduate program with a focus in health care administration (MBA/MHA/MHSA/MPA/MPH).

The administrative fellowship program provides preparation in executive development for future health care leaders through a combination of departmental rotations, problem-solving projects and participation in managerial functions throughout various organizational and operational settings within Northwell Health. This gives the fellows a valuable opportunity to gain practical operational experience and knowledge of the various aspects of health care, along with contact and interaction with all levels of leadership throughout the health network under executive-level mentorship.

The fellowship is a 12-month program that consists of facility and departmental rotations, project management, one-on-one mentoring, and attendance at various health system meetings and events. Each administrative fellow is assigned a member of the senior leadership team as a mentor/advisor for the duration of the fellowship program.

Participants will be assigned rotations based on their interests and discussion with their assigned mentor/advisor. The rotations will expose the fellows to many areas within the health system and health care. Fellows are assigned several projects in their rotations. These projects enable the fellows to fully immerse themselves in the departments and facilities to which they are assigned.

Mentorship

Each fellow is assigned a member of the senior leadership team to serve as a mentor during their fellowship year. Former fellows of the program serve as junior mentors. A site preceptor will be assigned to the fellows for each rotation to oversee the day-to-day function of the fellow.

Program curriculum

There are four 12-week rotations throughout the fellowship. Participants will be assigned rotations based on their interests and discussions with program leadership at the Center for Learning and Innovation. The rotations will expose the fellows to many areas within health care and the health system. Several projects are assigned within their rotations that enable the fellows to fully immerse themselves in the departments and facilities to which they are assigned.

The facility and departmental leaders know the educational objectives of the fellowship program and ensure that each rotation meets these goals. Each fellow rotates through areas such as a tertiary or community hospital, an ambulatory setting, a corporate entity and an elective area.
