Graduation - Successful Completion of an Academic Program

The School of Public Health graduates students each Fall, Winter, Spring and Summer terms. Students who complete all academic requirements for their individual program, must apply online to graduate:

  • Students whose primary campus is PSU apply to graduate using published deadline and pay the PSU graduation fee.
  • Students whose primary campus is OHSU apply to graduate in SIS one term prior to completing all degree requirements and pay the OHSU graduation fee.
  • Dual degree students where one is an OHSU campus program submit an Application for Dual Degree Form one term prior to completing all degree requirements and pay the OHSU graduation fee.

Final official transcripts can be released by the Registrar’s Office only after degree verification has been completed and all institutional obligations have been satisfied.

2018 Dates and Locations

    OHSU Convocation and SPH Hooding: Sunday, June 3rd, 2018. at the Oregon Convention Center.

  • This event is for SPH Master’s and PhD Graduates
  • Convocation begins at 1:00 pm, SPH Hooding begins at 3:00 pm with a reception to follow at 4:30 pm
    SPH PSU Commencement: Sunday, June 17, 2018 at the Moda Center.

  • This event is for SPH undergraduate, Master’s and PhD graduates
  • Commencement is from 10:00 am to 12:30 pm

Regalia - Academic Cap, Gown, and Tassel

  • Students whose primary campus is OHSU – order your regalia here or by calling 1-800-442-4696. Select School of Public Health. The deadline is April 13.
  • Students whose primary campus is PSU – order your regalia here before the April 13 deadline.

What colors are my regalia?

Master’s degree students and alums wear a black robe, a black mortarboard cap, a salmon pink tassel that will hang from your cap, and a master’s hood (imagine a backwards scarf) indicating the University’s colors and the discipline’s color.

      • OHSU Hood: University colors are green, blue and white, the velvet trim color is salmon pink for Public Health
      • PSU Hood: University colors are green and white, the velvet trim color is salmon pink for Public Health
      • Faculty regalia: SPH faculty wear the regalia from their highest degree earned, and so will have varying robe colors, cap types, and hood colors.

Your proofs will be ready to view online as soon as 48 hours of the ceremony. In order to notify you when your images are available, GradImages sends emails and mails paper proofs, along with optional text message notifications. Diploma & Diploma Frames

Diplomas are mailed once degree verification has been completed. All diplomas will be mailed to the new alum’s permanent address on record in Banweb for PSU campus students, and in SIS for OHSU campus students.

How do I sign up for these events?

    Students must take a number of actions to participate:

  • Complete relevant degree requirements
  • Apply to graduate by the relevant deadline: March 11th at PSU, and at least one term prior at OHSU
  • Order Regalia by April 13th
  • Register for this event (link coming soon!)

Do I need to be in regalia in order to participate?

Yes, all faculty and student participants of the SPH hooding, OHUS convocation and PSU commencement ceremonies must wear academic regalia.

By when do I need to order my regalia?

  • OHSU: Order your regalia by April 13th
  • PSU: Order your regalia online by April 13th,
    or preorder in person through the PSU Spirit Store by May 11th

When and where do I pick up my regalia order?

  • Students whose primary campus is OHSU can pick up their order:
  • Thursday, May 24 from 12pm – 6pm in the Student Center Nucleus Lounge.
  • Friday, May 25 from 8am – 1pm in the Student Center Nucleus Lounge.
  • Students whose primary campus is PSU regalia pickup location and dates is TBA

How many guests can I bring?

Tickets for OHSU Convocation and PSH hooding on June 3rd (event for Master’s and PhD students)

There is no limit to the number of guests you would like to bring to the SPH Hooding on June 3rd. To help us plan for this event, we asked to please indicate how many guests you expect to bring, when you register for this event. As of March 5th, registration is not yet open.

PSU Commencement (event for undergraduate, Master’s and PhD students)

Tickets for PSU Commencement are available through PSU’s online ticket portal, starting May 1, 2018. Each graduate is allotted four free tickets (graduates do not need a ticket for themselves).

Additional tickets will be available at $9 each and there is no limit. The Moda Center has ample seating and the PSU commencement team does not anticipate running out of seats. For more ticket information, please visit PSU Commencement Website

Do I have to bring my printed ticket to the SPH Hooding on June 3rd?

You do not have to bring your printed ticket to the June 3rd event, we will keep a list of all the RSVPs.

On June 3rd, what time do I need to be at the OCC, and how long will the day be?

The general timeline for events on June 3rd at the Oregon Convention Center is as follows:

  • 12:00 pm student line up for OHSU Convocation
  • 1:00 – 2:30 pm OHSU Convocation
  • 2:30 pm – 3:00 pm student line up for SPH Hooding (Master’s and PhD only)
  • 3:00 – 4:30 pm SPH Hooding
  • 4:30 pm SPH Reception

You should plan accordingly with traffic, parking, robing, using the restrooms, etc. before the event begins. Please note that robing and line-up for students and faculty begins at 12:00 p.m. and early admittance into Exhibit Halls for your guests will not be permitted. Doors to the Exhibit Hall for Convocation will open at 12:15 p.m.; families and guests will be allowed in the venue at that time. Door to the Exhibit Hall for Hooding will open at 2:30 pm.
Note that events on June 3rd are for Master’s and PhD graduates. Undergraduates are welcome to attend PSU Commencement on June 17th.

What kind of food will be provided at the reception?

The OHSU Convocation team orders all reception items for each School. We anticipate refreshments and appetizer type items will be provided.
