About The SPH Graduation Regalia

When ceremonies are held in person, all faculty and student participants must wear academic regalia. When ceremonies are held virtually, regalia is optional. The SPH regalia is provided by Herff/Jones.

Regalia Ordering Deadlines

Deadlines to order your regalia will vary depending on your degree, matriculation year, and attending ceremony. The deadlines for Spring 2023 ceremonies will either be April 7th or April 14th. Check below for your exact date.

Undergraduate Students

Ordering regalia for PSU Commencement is due by April 7th.

Dual MPH/MSW & MPH/MURP Degree Students

Ordering regalia for all graduation ceremonies is due by April 7th.
For more information about the PSU regalia visit the PSU Regalia webpage – PSU Regalia. Be sure to use Herff/Jones’s PSU link to place your order for MSW or MURP regalia. You may use either Herff/Jones’s OHSU or PSU link to purchase MPH regalia.

PhD Community Health and PhD Health Systems & Policy Students – matriculated prior to Fall 2017

All Other SPH Graduate Students

Ordering regalia for all graduation ceremonies is due by April 14th.
Be sure to use Herff/Jones’s OHSU link to place your order.

What Regalia Do I Wear?

  • Undergraduate degree candidates and alumni: black robe, black mortarboard cap with a salmon pink tassel.
  • Master of Public Health degree candidates and alumni: black masters’ robe, black mortarboard cap with a salmon pink tassel, master’s hood (imagine a backwards scarf) indicating the University’s colors and the discipline’s color.
  • Master of Science degree candidates and alumni: black master’s robe, black mortarboard cap with a gold tassel, master’s hood (imagine a backwards scarf) indicating the University’s colors and the discipline’s color.
  • Doctoral degree candidates and alumni: black doctoral robe, black mortarboard cap with a tassel, and a doctoral hood (imagine a backwards scarf) indicating the University’s colors and the discipline’s color.

Faculty Regalia

School of Public Health faculty will wear the regalia from their highest degree earned, and so will have varying robe colors, cap types, and hood colors. Faculty who need regalia can order their regalia through Heff/Jones.

Diplomas & Diploma Covers

Diplomas are mailed only after degree verification is complete. Diplomas will be mailed to the new alum’s mailing address on record in Banweb or SIS.

Tassels & Cords

Diversity Cords

Are you graduating this year? Check to see if you qualify to self-nominate for the SPH diversity cord. The decorative rope with tassels can be worn with the graduate’s regalia to indicate their achievements. The color of the Graduation Diversity Service Cord is blue to signify unity and perseverance.

Qualifications

  • Served as an active member and leader of a diversity-related student interest group for a minimum of 12 months
  • A past nominee or recipient of an OHSU award
  • Volunteered and made meaningful contributions with the Center for Diversity and Inclusion or other diversity-specific efforts (within their school or other entities) during their tenure at OHSU
