The Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC) honored Dr. Abbas A. Hyderi, Master of Public Health/Health Management and Policy alum, with the prestigious 2024 Alpha Omega Alpha Robert J. Glaser Distinguished Teacher Award. This award, given during a virtual ceremony on October 30, recognizes Dr. Hyderi’s exceptional contributions to medical education, research, clinical care, and community engagement. As the Vice Dean for Education at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine and the foundational Senior Associate Dean for Medical Education at the Kaiser Permanente Bernard J. Tyson School of Medicine, Dr. Hyderi has been a beacon of innovation and leadership. His unwavering commitment to developing curricula that encompass diversity, equity, and inclusion, as well as his focus on preparing medical students to deliver compassionate care to LGBTQ+ individuals and those at risk for or living with HIV, underscores the critical intersection of education and societal health. His advocacy for the transformative Oregon House Bill 2706 illustrates Dr. Hyderi’s profound belief in the power of policy to advance public health.
