Celebrating Excellence in Education: Dr. Nicky Wakim Receives Award for Transforming Student Experience

We are thrilled to announce that Dr. Nicky Wakim, assistant professor in the OHSU-PSU School of Public Health, has been named one of the two recipients of OHSU’s Teaching and Learning Center’s Transforming the Student Experience award. This honor recognizes educators who go above and beyond to create equitable and inclusive environments in the classroom—whether face-to-face, hybrid, or fully remote—and who demonstrate creativity, insight, and strategy to achieve positive outcomes for their students.

Dr. Wakim’s recognition is both a celebration and testament to the power of education in public health. The selection committee specifically commended her efforts in “intentionally creating more equitable and inclusive learning experiences in the OHSU-PSU School of Public Health’s biostatistics courses.” With public health education serving as the cornerstone for advancing health equity, Dr. Wakim exemplifies what it means to foster environments that truly uplift and support all learners.

Dr. Wakim, along with other award recipients, will be celebrated at the Symposium on Education Excellence on May 16, 2025. This annual event is an opportunity to honor those who are driving meaningful change in education, as well as to reflect on the power of teaching as it shapes the hearts and minds of future health care leaders.

Please join us in congratulating Dr. Wakim on this well-deserved honor!
