Meet Our Faculty: Julia Goodman, 2020 School of Public Health Researcher of the Year

Every year, Portland State University recognizes faculty with awards for excellence in research, graduate mentoring, and research administration. The awards are among the university’s highest honors. They recognize and incentivize the ongoing excellence of PSU faculty and staff through research, scholarship, artistry and dedication to PSU research activities and students. Recipients of the awards are some of the most dynamic faculty and staff members at PSU. Colleagues make nominations, and a jury of peers selects awardees based on the significance and quality of their research or creative achievements and extraordinary commitment to creating an environment supportive of research and student success.

The 2020 OHSU-PSU School of Public Health Research of the Year is Dr. Julia M. Goodman, MPH, Phd. Goodman is an Assistant Professor of Health Systems Management & Policy. Her research is at the intersection of health services research, population health, and work and family policy, exploring how social, structural, and economic factors influence perinatal health and explores the impact of work-related policies on fertility decisions and pregnancy outcomes. She is currently collaborating with researchers at the University of California, Berkeley, on a three-year evaluation of San Francisco’s new paid parental leave ordinance. Goodman

Goodman was also a Women’s Policy Institute Fellow with the Women’s Foundation of California and is a member of the Work and Family Researchers Network, whose mission is to facilitate virtual and face-to-face interaction among academic work and family researchers from a broad range of fields
