Biography

James Harker worked at Providence Health & Services from 2001 through 2024. Prior to joining PH&S, he worked in strategic planning, facilitation and project management as a manager with Arthur Andersen. Mr. Harker has been responsible for development and implementation of the PH&S-Oregon strategic plan and the transition to population health management. His teams developed individual entity and service area strategic and operating plans in support of regional priorities. He was also responsible for prioritization, resourcing and tracking of those priorities through portfolio and project management, process engineering and change management teams. He has also helped develop new partnerships for Providence. He was privileged to participate in building global ministries for Providence and has actively participated in that work. He most recently focused on implementing integrated population health models, including both financial and care model transformation, with special concern for vulnerable and underrepresented communities.

Experienced Faculty With Diverse Backgrounds

More than 150 faculty members work within the OHSU-PSU School of Public Health. They have a wide range of expertise, from monitoring and assessing health risks and opportunities in populations, to helping build health-supporting social environments through policy, advocacy, and programs. They are educators, advisors, researchers, practitioners and community leaders. They come from backgrounds in quantitative, behavioral, environmental and social sciences, policy and government, exercise and health sciences and anthropology, among many other areas. They all work in collaboration with each other and with community partners, and are especially focused on the training and education of future leaders and practitioners in the public health fields.
