Biography

Ma’Adjoa Manu teaches undergraduate courses Our Community Our Health and Nutrition for Health.

Ma’Adjoa’s research focus is investigating social and structural determinants of health among people who can become pregnant. Over the past decade, Ma’Adjoa has partnered with communities and universities in Ghana and the United States, and international organizations such as the World Health Organization, UNAIDS, and USAID to work on projects focused on contraceptive use; adolescent sexual health and behaviors; healthcare access and utilization; key populations size estimation in Ghana; how pregnant women are treated during childbirth at healthcare facilities in Ghana, Guinea, Myanmar, and Nigeria; building sustainable communities in Tokyo; and promoting education and family planning as climate solutions.

Ma’Adjoa’s current research seeks to better understand reproductive life planning among women with intellectual and developmental disabilities, including the role of developmental disabilities services case managers in conversations about pregnancy and reproductive life plans. She volunteers with organizations to provide resilience training for youths with trauma experiences, most of the youths are in foster care.

Experienced Faculty With Diverse Backgrounds

More than 150 faculty members work within the OHSU-PSU School of Public Health. They have a wide range of expertise, from monitoring and assessing health risks and opportunities in populations, to helping build health-supporting social environments through policy, advocacy, and programs. They are educators, advisors, researchers, practitioners and community leaders. They come from backgrounds in quantitative, behavioral, environmental and social sciences, policy and government, exercise and health sciences and anthropology, among many other areas. They all work in collaboration with each other and with community partners, and are especially focused on the training and education of future leaders and practitioners in the public health fields.
