Lactation Alumnus, Taylor Silver, Publishes New Research on Breastfeeding and Infant Food Allergies

We are proud to celebrate Taylor Silver, BS, RD, IBCLC, an alumnus of the OHSU-PSU School of Public Health Certification in Human Lactation program, on the publication of their recent article, “Supporting Families as They Navigate Infant Food Allergies,” in the Journal of Human Lactation.

The article examines emerging evidence on the transfer of dietary proteins into human milk and offers practical, evidence-based guidance for supporting breastfeeding families navigating suspected infant food allergies. Importantly, the research challenges longstanding assumptions around maternal elimination diets and highlights a more individualized, family-centered approach that protects both infant health and the breastfeeding relationship.

This work is especially meaningful for the lactation community, as infant food allergies can create significant stress and uncertainty for families and providers alike. By emphasizing collaboration among healthcare professionals and the critical role of lactation support, the article helps advance best practices that preserve breastfeeding while addressing infant symptoms.
