Responding to the Next Public Health Emergency: A Scenario-Based Bipartisan Dialogue

June 24 @ 9:00 am - 10:30 am

As part of the ASPPH Public Health Listening Tour, ASPPH and the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences (USUHS) will host Responding to the Next Public Health Emergency: A Scenario-Based Bipartisan Dialogue on June 24 from 12:00–1:30 PM ET in Bethesda, MD, and virtually via Google Meet. This interactive event will bring together public health leaders and experts to examine how critical decisions are made during an emerging public health crisis, highlighting the challenges, tradeoffs, and communication strategies that shape effective response efforts.

The event will be introduced by Laura Magaña, PhD, MS, ASPPH’s President and CEO, and James Mancuso, MD, DrPH, of USUHS and moderated by Joe Palca, PhD, an award-winning former NPR science correspondent recognized for his work in science communication and storytelling.

Using a dynamic scenario involving the emergence of a drug-resistant bacterial infection in the Washington, DC region, a multidisciplinary panel will navigate the evolving challenges of emergency response. As the situation develops, panelists will address issues such as resource constraints, misinformation, cross-sector coordination, and maintaining public trust.
