Ready. Set. Action! Celebrating National Public Health Week at the OHSU-PSU School of Public Health

The OHSU-PSU School of Public Health is proud to announce a week-long series of events in celebration of National Public Health Week (NPHW). This year’s theme—“Ready. Set. Action!”—speaks directly to the urgency, collaboration, and collective responsibility at the heart of public health work.

National Public Health Week is a time to pause and recognize the many ways public health shapes our everyday lives. From safer drinking water and cleaner air to disease prevention, emergency preparedness, and healthier workplaces. Public health protections quietly, and powerfully, support our families, extend our life spans, and strengthen the communities we call home. These infrastructures didn’t happen by chance; they are the result of sustained effort, evidence-based practice, and a commitment to equity and well-being for all.

For those of us who teach, research, practice, and advocate in public health, “Ready. Set. Action!” captures the essence of our mission. Public health is not passive. It is proactive, responsive, and deeply rooted in action that is informed by science, shaped by community voices, and carried forward through partnership. Whether responding to emerging health threats or addressing long-standing disparities, our work requires readiness, resolve, and the courage to act.

Join SPH In Celebrating This April!

This year’s NPHW celebration also highlights the importance of collaboration. Public health succeeds when we work together across disciplines, institutions, and communities. Our SPH community is connected to a broad network of local, state, national, and global partners, all united by a shared goal: advancing health and well-being for everyone.

Throughout the week, the School of Public Health will host events, discussions, and activities that showcase the impact of public health and the people behind it. As we celebrate National Public Health Week, we invite our community and partners to reflect on how far public health has brought us, and how much more we can achieve together. Now is the time to be ready, to set our intentions, and to take action!
