Nancy Carney²
Biography
Dr. Nancy Carney, PhD, has a secondary faculty appointment in the OHSU-PSU School of Public Health as a Professor in the Public Health Practice (online) programs. In this SPH role her work includes teaching courses, mentoring students, and collaborating on research with primary faculty members.
She is an active member of the Public Health Practice faculty, has taught several courses required for the MPH degree, and has a research background and training in Systems Science. Professor Carney has worked in research in low and middle-income countries (LMICs) for over twenty years, and brings that direct experience to the virtual classroom.
Professor Carney directed an undergraduate, senior-level practicum for the Community Psychology Program at Portland State University (PSU) and taught undergraduate and graduate courses in the Department of Psychology at PSU from 1991 through 2002. Her research includes having conducted clinical and evidence-based research about traumatic brain injury (TBI) at OHSU and in LMICs since 1997.

Experienced Faculty With Diverse Backgrounds
More than 150 faculty members work within the OHSU-PSU School of Public Health. They have a wide range of expertise, from monitoring and assessing health risks and opportunities in populations, to helping build health-supporting social environments through policy, advocacy, and programs. They are educators, advisors, researchers, practitioners and community leaders. They come from backgrounds in quantitative, behavioral, environmental and social sciences, policy and government, exercise and health sciences and anthropology, among many other areas. They all work in collaboration with each other and with community partners, and are especially focused on the training and education of future leaders and practitioners in the public health fields.
